**Please see the latest update regarding the HLM 360 tool further down the page **
The Healthcare Leadership Model for health has been developed to create a vision for leadership, one that reflects the very best in care and compassion, alongside a focus on excellent in strategy, vision, direction and engagement.

How is the model used?
The model describes what good leaders do, and it will help you develop as a leader by showing you how your leadership behaviours affect the culture and climate you, your colleagues and teams work in. Whether you work directly with patients and service users or not, you will realise what you do and how you behave will affect the experience of patients and service users of your organisation, the quality of care provided and the reputation of the organisation itself.
360° Degree Feedback
360° degree feedback is a powerful tool that is linked to the nine dimensions of the NHS Healthcare Leadership Model. The tool is an opportunity and a means of enabling you to identify where your leadership strengths and development needs lie by receiving objective feedback from a trained facilitator. A 360° report is compiled using confidential ratings given by your line manager, peers and direct reports,’ giving you an insight into other people’s perceptions of your leadership abilities and behaviours and helping you to identify your developmental needs and action planning around it.
Next steps
Once you have explored the dimensions, you may want to undertake the free self-assessment tool, which will help you to assess your leadership behaviours and more fully understand your leadership development. Alternatively, why not undertake a full 360°degree feedback opportunity, which would include the support of an experienced feedback facilitator to explore and understand the 360° report. These cost £40 each and can currently be funded by your Midlands People, Talent Culture Team.
**Update on the future of the HLM360 tool**
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THE CURRENT HLM 360 TOOL
Dear HLM Leads and Facilitators,
If you manage or facilitate the HLM tool within your organisation please read the below regarding the ending of the existing Healthcare Leadership Model (HLM) Contract with Talogy, and the implications this will have on any remaining HLM360 credits you may have.
As previously advised the HLM contract with Talogy, and the current HLM360 tool as we know it will be ending on 13th November 2026. This is to make way for the new 360 tool in line with the recently launched Leadership & Management Framework. The new 360 tool is planned to be released Winter 2026 and will be at no cost to organisations.
To support organisations with large amounts of unused credits, we have negotiated a short time only extension with Talogy, between 14th November and 31st March 2027. This will allow individuals who have started a report to complete their journey, allow individuals to access/download any existing information they want from their HLM Appraisal Hub profile and support a smooth transition between closing the current HLM360 and implementing the new 360 tool.
From 1st April 2027, there will be significant changes for the existing HLM360 credits, including an increase in cost of the HLM360 reports (including when using existing credits and buying new reports), limited HLM360 facilitator training or refresher courses and no dedicated NHS-Talogy support team.
What does this mean for you?
- If your organisation has unused credits: please work with your organisation to use any outstanding credits, you have. If you do not think you can use them all and would like to donate some to a national pot to support other colleagues to use them, please let your regional contact know and they can support a transfer.
- If you have existing places in batches: all remaining places in batches should be used as soon as possible.
- If you have no unused credits (i.e. have spent all your credits): there is no further action for you.
The National Leadership & Management team will be communicating to providers of national programmes such as Mary Seacole and Rosalind Franklin. These programmes, and all other national programmes (including GMTS) will continue to use the HLM360 until 31st March 2027. After this time, we anticipate the refreshed versions of the programmes aligned to the new Leadership and Management will be launched where the updated associated 360 will then be used.
If you are a HLM360 facilitator or your organisation has currently trained HLM360 Facilitators, there is no current action for you to take. There will communications later this year regarding potential future facilitation options however this is still being explored.
We have used the current Healthcare Leadership Model and 360 tools for almost 10 years, and it has supported thousands of NHS colleagues with their leadership development. We want to thank all our past and current HLM360 facilitators who have supported their NHS colleagues with their feedback debriefs. We now look forward to this exciting time ahead with a new Leadership & Management Framework and associated 360 tool.
