What is it about?
We are pleased to offer opportunities for members of our local talent networks to join a virtual workshop we will be running with a focus on talent review and succession planning.
Aimed specifically at those responsible for leading on these activities, the purpose of this workshop is to consider the implications of implementing these activities in a systems context and to consolidate skills and knowledge required to do this successfully.
The workshop will take place over two x 2 hour sessions (held on the same day with a short break in between) and participants will be required to engage with some preparation activities. These will cover:
- An overview of the strategic requirements relating to talent management and succession planning in a systems context
- Consideration of the infrastructure, processes and tools essential to carrying out talent reviews and succession planning successfully at system level
- Creating the right conditions and preparing for effective talent reviews
- Participation in a talent review and succession planning simulation
- Opportunity to share reflections and ask questions

“Communities of practice are groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly.” Etienne Wenger
Our aspiration for the Midlands Community of Practice is to create a true community of talent practitioners who have strong relationships, shared ideas and collaborative working. This is a community for you and with you involved. Within the community we aim to create a blueprint for great talent practice within the Midlands region and we need your voice, input and collaboration to make this a true inclusive process for all of our Midlands organisations.
What is it about?
Following the success and fabulous connection and conversation during the October Community of Practice, we are planning to continue the exploration and dialogue in May. This session is designed in the true spirit of Community of Practice, giving you, our talent leads, the opportunity to connect and explore in a safe community.
Based on your feedback and requests – this session will explore what is happening in talent management in our organisations and systems and our experiences to date – What is working? What isn’t? And how our practice may need to adapt to ensure it is current and appropriate for the new systems that are emerging. We are inviting Talent Leads to share their practice and receive support and input from colleagues.
We will also have a continuing theme of inclusivity and talent management in this session starting with a focus on bias. How do we ensure that our own bias is managed as we create processes, programmes and opportunities for all?
In the true spirit of this community and collaboration, please include other Talent management specialists in the community. This is a great time to be involved as we build our work together and take time and space away from the day job to think bigger and practically about talent.
As we are building relationships, please come prepared to connect, to talk and to share.

What is it about?
Join us on the 27th April for this engaging, thought provoking and evidence-based session with guest speaker – Bailey Bell, Business Psychologist at Pearn Kandola. Bailey will provide an overview of proven ways of identifying diverse talent, how to develop and to build great performance from diverse talent. This will include facets of inclusive selection and onboarding, and the key factors in making this happen at the core of the vital recruitment process. Many organisations often overlook this step and make decisions which make inclusion at other stages of the employee life cycle very difficult.
About our Guest Speaker and Pearn Kandola
Bailey is a Psychologist with Pearn Kandola. He has previously conducted research into the impact that daily stressors have on working behaviours, instilling fair and accurate processes and other factors affecting diversity and inclusion in organisations, which he applies to his work.
