Graduate Management Training Scheme (GMTS)

The multi award winning NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme (GMTS) offers its trainees the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to become proficient leaders of transformation who can manage the balance between access and affordability. We work closely with the National Leadership and Lifelong Learning Team to deliver this scheme across the Midlands, taking the lead on ensuring placements are of the highest quality and provide a fantastic experience for trainees.

Interested in helping our graduates gain experience?

It is our job as a Regional Leadership and Lifelong Learning team to manage placements, local networking and training. Whilst on the scheme each trainee will complete at least two work-based placements within local organisations, gaining experience as well as providing a valuable contribution to the organisation. The next scheduled intake for trainees is due to take place in September 2023 and applications to host a trainee are now open.

If you would like to host a graduate trainee for the September 2023 cohort, you will need to submit a completed application form in two stages:

• Stage 1: Summary information about the hosts commitment to the Scheme requirements in a Statement of Commitment application. By completing stage one you are committing to host a trainee. – by 3rd February 2023.

• Stage 2: Following the approval and allocation of a trainee, detailed placement information including placement and programme manager details, operational and strategic placement job descriptions with high-level deliverables, and draft Orientation plan – by 20th June 2023.

As with previous intakes, the lead organisation is responsible for working with a partner organisation to create an experience with both operational and strategic experiences, in different environments and teams, and preferably across multiple organisations. The lead organisation is responsible for the full £24,000 contribution for the lifecycle of the trainee’s time on the scheme.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss hosting a trainee further, please contact us at [email protected] and we will provide you with the necessary application forms, guidance documentation and dates of information sessions we are running during November and December 2022.
