Lived experience session – Confessions from a Neuro-diverse Universe with Kay Smith
Please come and join us for another personal story:-
Introducing …, Kay Smith! I am a Practice Manager in a busy GP Surgery and live with my husband and 15 year old son Oliver.
Four years ago my son was diagnosed with ASD and dyspraxia and last year I was diagnosed with ADHD.
I am going to talk about neuro-diversity and its co-morbidities’, the challenges life brings as both the parent of a neuro-diverse child and being neuro-divergent myself; the lifelong battles with establishments and the success and possibilities in a world with greater understanding and by making some simple adjustments.
I hope by sharing some of my families experience I can increase awareness and understanding of the challenges and break down some of the stigma, myths and assumptions made to enable the fantastic neuro-divergent community reach their potential professionally and academically and live a happy fulfilled life without having to feel guilt or reproach.
