SUMMARY:Midlands Talent Community of Practice
DESCRIPTION:“Communities of Practice are groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly.” Etienne Wenger \nOur aspiration for the Midlands Community of Practice is to create a true community of system and organisational talent practitioners who have strong relationships\, shared ideas and collaborative working. This is a community for you and with you involved. Within the Community we aim to create a blueprint for great talent practice within the Midlands region and we need your voice\, input and collaboration to make this a true inclusive process for all of our Midlands organisations. \n  \nWhat is it about? \nThe session will be facilitated by Andrea Glover from Silvermaple\, and we also look forward to welcoming Rosie Smithson\, Head of Organisational Development at Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust who has kindly agreed to share her experiences of embedding talent management practices.  The Trust’s approaches to talent mapping and succession planning were cited as a contributing factor in their ‘Outstanding’ CQC well-led rating. We will also be taking a look at succession planning including a quick guide to implementing different approaches as well as an opportunity to network\, share with and learn from organisation and system colleagues. \n  \nHow is it run? \nThis is a 150 minute virtual workshop . A rest break will be included. \n  \nIs there a cost? \nNo\, this has been funded by the Midlands Talent Team \n  \n

SUMMARY:System Convening – Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:Delivered in collaboration with the NHS South West Leadership Academy and Wenger-Trayner Unip Ltd\, via zoom.  \nOverview  \nThis masterclass is for people who are involved in complex initiatives and are looking for tools and perspectives for making a difference across multiple boundaries or silos of practice\, institutions and geography. The goal is to help you think through a strategy for dealing with your project in its broader context of often-competing initiatives\, perspectives\, expectations\, and politics.  \n“I valued the advise on how to approach bringing people together who historically have worked in silo organisations”  \n“I valued the helpful tools and construct to support delivery of complex transformation across very diverse organisation boundaries”  \nParticipant feedback from the 2021-2022 System Convening Masterclass  \nBackground  \nMany people nowadays find themselves leading initiatives that seem more complex than they used to be. Circumstances quickly change\, people’s stances on different sides of traditional boundaries are deepening\, expectations of results are speeding up. We call the kind of people who take on these challenges systems conveners.  \nThe workshop engages participants in a reflection on their work from a systems-convening perspective. This entails understanding the mindset that systems conveners bring to their project as well as the various dimensions of the work of systems convening.  \nOutcomes  \n\nAn understanding of the systems convening perspective \nA wider range of possibilities for taking a systems convening approach to move initiatives forward \nSpecific examples of how to do this work \n\nStructure of the session  \nIn this session we invite you to think through an approach for thinking about and taking action in the more complex environment we find ourselves in. We’ll include a reflection at four levels:  \n\nToday. The complex landscape we find ourselves in today \nA new approach. A systems convening perspective (compared with a more traditional approach) \nLanguage for action. An language to frame this systems convening perspective in actionable ways \n\n\nDoing the work. The work involved in doing this perspective \n\nThe specific themes we’ll be addressing include:  \n\nA landscape perspective \nBoundaries and identities \nPower and agency \nValue creation \nLegitimacy and convening call \n\nFacilitator Bios  \nEtienne and Beverly Wenger-Trayner  \nEtienne and Beverly Wenger-Trayner are internationally renowned social learning theorists and consultants. Their pioneering work in social learning is influential in such diverse fields as learning theory\, business\, government\, international development\, healthcare\, and education. Their consulting practice specializes in contexts where there are large-scale social learning challenges. They founded the Social Learning Lab\, where they host series of events oriented to theory\, practice\, and leadership. The co-edited volume Learning in landscapes of practice expands the theory beyond single communities. Systems convening sheds light on a crucial form of social-learning leadership. They are preparing a guidebook for communities of practice. They have started a book series called Learning to make a difference and recently published the first volume. It introduces the concept of social learning space as a new foundation for the theory\, and their value-creation framework as a tool for both conceptualizing and cultivating social learning. Read the book here: Systems Convening – A crucial form of leadership for the 21st century (free PDF download).  \nPlease note that this is a pan-regional programme\, led by the South West Leadership Academy. Your local leadership academy is co-ordinating all bookings for your region. Confirmation emails and links to all sessions will be issued by the South West Leadership Academy.

SUMMARY:Population Health Management and Health Inequalities Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:Population Health Management and Health Inequalities \nThe NHS Long-Term Plan and People Plan has called for the integration care system (ICS approach including Primary Care and the evolution of Primary Care Networks (PCN). The ambition is to bring general practices\, dental\, optometry and community pharmacy together to provide coordinated healthcare solutions to the communities they serve. Learning from the challenges of operating within a Covid environment\, the need to develop the leadership capabilities of those within the PCN is a key priority to the delivery of the ICS agenda and tackling health inequalities. Population health management (PHM) is one of NHS England  core strategic aims for Integrated Care Systems; to improve physical and mental health outcomes\, promote wellbeing and reduce health inequalities across an entire population\, with a specific focus on the wider determinants of health (things like housing\, employment\, education). \nThe Coronavirus (COVID-19) response to date has highlighted the pivotal role of PHM\, with Primary\, Social and Secondary Care providers needing to risk stratify and proactively support key population groups with personalised care models. SUMMARY:Career Confidence Booster and Banishing the Imposter
DESCRIPTION:What is it about? \nCareer Confidence Booster & Banishing the Imposter\nConfidence is an often misunderstood phenomenon\, as we often only notice it when it is lacking.\nHowever\, for some people a display of confidence can be misinterpreted as arrogance. How do you find the middle ground and indeed should you\, particularly when it comes to your career?\nBut it might not be a lack of confidence which impacts on your career: research indicates that the imposter phenomenon contributes to a reluctance to move jobs (Grubb and McDowell\, 2012)\, reduced career planning and a disinclination to take leadership positions (Neureiter and TrautMattausch\, 2016\, Jöstl et al.\, 2015). \nThis online masterclass will address some of the beliefs that impact our behaviours and can reduce or enhance our confidence\, together with some strategies to banish the imposter chatter.\nBy the end of the masterclass participants will be able to: \n\nUnderstand which beliefs affect their behaviours and career choices\nMake changes to their self-talk to boost their confidence\nIdentify a minimum of three strategies to banish\, or at least reduce\, their imposter chatter.\n\nGuest Speaker \nWe are delighted to be joined  Kate Atkin is an inspirational speaker\, training consultant and coach.\nWith over 20 years of experience as a facilitator\, Kate has worked with many clients on business\, management and communication issues. A highly skilled listener\, her style is both supportive and challenging. Kate aims to create a relaxed\, confidential learning experience\, providing practical advice that can be implemented quickly. \nHow is it run? \nThis is a 90 minute virtual workshop over Zoom. \nIs there a cost? \nNo\, this has been funded by the Midlands Talent Team and East of England Talent Team.

SUMMARY:Coaching CPD – Express Coaching Cohort 2
DESCRIPTION:Coaching CPD – Express Coaching  \nAbout the session:  \nThis will explore Express Coaching from the perspective of the coach:  building an understanding of how to be impactful as a coach in a time-limited\, outcome focused coaching session.  \nCalibrating your practice to supporting a coachee in potentially one standalone session can be challenging.  Overcoming some of the potential barriers\, natural preference and indeed bias to practicing in longer term coaching relationships will be key. SUMMARY:Leading a Multidisciplinary Team Programme
DESCRIPTION:Strong leadership to develop cohesive and sustainable multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) in a primary care setting is key to supporting and empowering service users within their own communities-being seen by the right person at the right time in the right place and supporting people to live their best lives. \nMDTs are the mechanism for organising and coordinating health\, social care and voluntary services to meet the needs of individuals with complex care needs. \nThis programme will support participants to develop their system leadership skills\, alongside developing an awareness and understanding of how to apply these skills to deliver true personalised care. \nThe offer will provide an opportunity for peer-led learning\, through facilitated Application Learning Groups. These groups\, in conjunction with the theory will support greater understanding of both the landscape they are working in\, as well as the challenges of developing a strong\, collaborative team of people from various professional backgrounds and team cultures\, who are coming together for the shared aim of putting the patient at the centre of the conversation. As the programme is pan-regional\, it will offer participants the opportunity of learning from colleagues across the country. \nThis is a pan-regional programme with a limited number of places. We are therefore keen to ensure that the right individuals have the opportunity of participating and that they have the support and sponsorship of both their line-manager and the wider system that they are working within. \nWho is this programme for? \nIndividuals responsible for developing\, facilitating and leading MDT working. \nProgramme Aims: \n\nExplore and understand the value of MDT working in the context of patient centred care\, population health\, placed based care and the wider landscape of Integrated Care Systems (ICS’s)\nUnderstand the importance of a shared vision and finding a common language.
