SUMMARY:Population Health Led Strategic Workforce Planning Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:This masterclass will explore how a strategic approach to workforce planning can address current and future needs in primary and community settings. Population health including demographic change over time and the impact of Covid 19 is the starting point for understanding the kind of workforce that is needed. The session will focus on key principles of a population health led approach to workforce planning in primary and community care. Examples of how this approach has been applied elsewhere will be shared and there will be opportunities for participants to engage in short exercises to enhance the learning experience. A toolkit to do workforce modelling will be presented in the form of a slide deck which can be distributed to interested parties and will set out similar material in a more detailed way. \nThe approach used by the Whole Systems Partnership is rooted in local population health needs and is framed in the language of skill-mix and the delivery of care functions that meet the needs of distinct people groups within a given geographical area.  The approach has been applied at all levels from a local GP Practice to an ICS and has helped local partners to identify recruitment and staff development priorities that are rooted in future health needs and transformed services. \nAt the end of the session participants will have: \n\nA greater understanding of population health segmentation as it applies to strategic workforce planning\nAn understanding of how a strategic workforce planning framework can be used to set out an effective workforce plan for the future\nTools that can be used to do strategic workforce planning\n\nDate and Time:\nTuesday 13th September 2022; 3.30pm to 6pm \nWho can attend the programme?\nAll NHS staff from Primary\, Secondary and Social Care \nIs there a cost to participants?\nNo\, the programme is fully funded by NHS England \nFacilitators:\nPeter Lacey (Director of the Whole Systems Partnership (WSP)) \nTabitha Arulampalam (Associate Consultant with WSP) \nSpecial requirements: \nIf you have any special requirements\, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our team at midlands@leadershipacademy.nhs.uk \nFurther information:\nThere are 20 places and the masterclasses will be held via Microsoft Teams. DESCRIPTION:This masterclass Equally healthy – leading with compassion to reduce health inequalities in your community is designed and delivered to provide a practical approach to population health management and a unique insight of behaviour science on leading and managing change to address inequalities. The facilitators will be taking a different route into the perennial challenges of health inequalities and population health by exploring lived experiences from your population in advance of the session to reflect on the realities of ‘health inequalities’ in human terms and how you could usefully help\, sharing thoughts with other participants.  Where possible\, they’d love it if you would bring a real change you’d like to see in your community – then you can leave the session with an actionable action plan.  Don’t worry if you have yet to settle on one\, you can still enjoy learning how to have better conversations with communities using psychology. In the masterclass the facilitators will share behavioural insights tools from social psychology and use a systemic lens to consider the impact of exclusion\, from digital skills to those excluded from equal health due to their socio-economic or ethnic background\, culture or education; resulting in communities who live shorter lives\, with more pain and higher incidence of chronic conditions.  They will explore how to have different conversations with your community\, and how you might use psychology to influence a mindset shift around health inequalities. You will learn about the neuroscience of compassion – when and how it can shut down; and how to ensure that compassion and inclusion are woven into your leadership and any decisions about citizens when designing primary care pathways. Figuring out how to create inclusive\, equally healthy communities might not be a comfortable process\, but if you are joining this session\, we suspect you know the uncomfortable truth already.
